The BASI Comprehensive Teacher Training Course is an in-depth program that provides both an academic and practical depth of knowledge. Rigorous training on the full range of Pilates apparatus is followed by an extensive apprenticeship program. The course is taught in a modular format that allows each student to repeat or make up any of the 12 modules, or elements of the program at any BASI host location around the world.

The Comprehensive Program includes:

Personal Study - MVHC is unparalleled in supporting the Pilates student by offering a one year membership to the club. Students have complete access to the Pilates studio (and the rest of the gym), which supports all components of the comprehensive program. The club membership is contingent upon attending the bulk of the modules at MVHC.

Practical Work - including sessions on the apparatus, Mat Work classes and workshops . As much practical experience as possible is encouraged. MVHC offers empty spots in group classes to students free of charge.  In addition “open studio” for self directed practice is available to the student any time the studio is open.

Observation - Up to 100** hours at MVHC or an Affiliate studio.

Apprentice Teaching - up to 200** hours at MVHC or an Affiliate studio.

The course generally takes place over a 3-6 month period of comprehensive study and encompasses approximately 500** hours of study. However, the process of becoming a skilled teacher is highly individual. We encourage each individual to work at his or her own pace and to integrate the work and knowledge into their own body. We pride ourselves on the personal relationship we establish with each student. Since our goal is to help shape and develop excellence in all our graduates, students will be allowed to repeat any element of the examination process to achieve the required BASI standard. **These are the recommended number of hours but may be adjusted based upon the past experience of the student.

Prerequisites:

Familiarity with the teachings of Joseph Pilates
It is highly recommended to have familiarity and experience in Pilates, both Mat Work and on the apparatus, before embarking on this course of study

Study in basic anatomy and physiology
Although it is recommended that this be a college level course, it is also acceptable if it is part of another area of study such as a massage therapy, physical therapy or some other similar program

Experience in a related form of physical activity
Over the years it has become apparent that experience in other physical activities is extremely beneficial. This allows the student to relate and compare the work to past movement experience

Teaching experience is recommended
Teaching is a learned skill, an art and a natural talent. Any past teaching experience, even in an unrelated area will contribute to the process of becoming a teacher of the Pilates method.
